Today we have come one more step closer to seeing another player in the mobile OS wars. Well, sort of. Canonical, venerable maker of the Ubuntu OS for PC released a beta of Ubuntu for Android earlier this year, and have taken the steps to make a standalone device, dubbed the Ubuntu Edge. That is a device that is purely “future” enabled with its hardware. Likened to the way future tech gets placed in Formula 1 racing cars, the Edge is meant to be the look forward into what mobile OEMs will be doing moving toward. Check out their crowdfunding page over here for more info, and if you’re feeling so inclined, donate. The pledges are already up to almost $1 million.
