So today is the day.
The story that has built up for the past few years was one of a company that seemed to be falling out of touch with what consumers wanted. A company that was not bringing in the profits it wanted, even with some of their newer, more ambitious devices. Well today begins the next chapter in this company named RIM, maker of BlackBerry devices.
RIM today announced the BlackBerry Z10 and the BlackBerry Q10. These two devices run on BlackBerry 10 OS (aka BB10). The Z10 is a completely touchscreen device with a bevy of features, some of which are more OS specific than device specific. The Q10 will be the first BlackBerry 10 device to have a keyboard, think Blackberry Bold 9900 series on steroids.
In other RIM related news today, RIM will no longer be known as Research in Motion. As of today, RIM will now become BlackBerry. I’m gonna be honest here, I’m a little lost as to why now with the name change. I guess they wanted to streamline everything, you know since everyone thinks the company is named BlackBerry anyway, right? Well let’s hope the new name change and the new devices, both announced and in the pipeline provide a bit of a much-needed spark to RIM, er, BlackBerry.
